Qingdao University of science and technology (QUST) and Korea Chung-Ang University (CAU) jointly organized the Master/ MFA-PhD of arts education program for film and animation, which was approved by the MOE of China in August 2015 (Notice No. [2015] 57, approval No.: moe37kr1a20151716n). It is the first Sino-foreign cooperative education project for MFA approved by the MOE in Shandong Province. It is also the first Sino-foreign cooperative education project for MFA and the first Sino-foreign cooperative education project for art area in Qingdao University of science and technology.
The project is highly valued by the two universities. The students of the project study in QUST for the first year. China & Korea Project Executive Committee is set up to be responsible for the implementation, and all the core courses are taught by professors of Korea Chung-Ang University. In the second year, students will go to Korea Chung-Ang University, where the college of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film (GSAIM) was responsible for teaching.
The project will use independent recruitment strategy, and applicants don’t need to participate in the postgraduate examination organized by the MOE of China.
It has become one of the most high-quality projects in China and has formed a high popularity in Humanities and Art majors in China universities. The students in the project are all selected through the joint interview by China and Korea experts and professors. Students mainly come from 985 and 211 universities and provincial key universities (such as Communication University of China, Xiamen University, Shandong University, Northwest University, China University of Geosciences, Shanghai University, Wuhan University of Technology, Shandong Normal University, Zhong nan University of Economics and Law, etc.) and the first-class art specialized universities in China (such as Beijing Film Academy, Central Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy of Art and The Central Academy of Drama, etc.). Among them, there are also many university teachers with master's degree.
In order to make full use of the high-quality educational resources of foreign universities, QUST not only implementing the MFA program approved by the MOE of China, Korea Chung-Ang University has also set up a MFA-PhD of arts education program. Students in this project also could apply MFA-PhD voluntarily and after the selection by professors from Korea Chung-Ang University, they can directly follow the program of MFA-PhD of arts education program. The candidates could receive the same education as students in Korea Chung-Ang University and scholarships for foreign students. So far, more than 80% of the graduates of this program have begun to study for a doctorate and other graduates work in some media companies and universities
